If the hole for the shaft in the carb casting is wallowed out air will use it. It can be repaired with a sleeve. Sleeves can be purchased from Just 8N's. I have repaired a few but drilling for the sleeve is difficult, must be carefully aligned plus the casting is soft and the bit tends to wander.
