Brian, are you referring to Kevin LaRue's tutorial? If so, I believe that his solution replaces the internal hydraulic pump rather than supplementing it for other operations. If I am right, then yes, you would need to chain your rear lift down to operate a front-end loader.

If you want to install a loader, an alternative that most folks use is to install a pump to the front pulley and run it from the crankshaft. You will need a separate valve to control loader operation and a dedicated supply for hydraulic fluid, which is usually stored in the frame of the loader.
