I have started using my early 9N w/ Aluminum hood and have a concern with the 9N1000A generator and 9N-101505 voltage regulator. When I finally got my hands on an "A" generator it did not have the original armature on it, it had the "B" armature. It was pretty worn so I sent it in and had it rewound with new brush surface. Also I obtained one of Tim Daley's solid state regulators originally made for Ford 39 Delux sedans, which Tim stated were same as the tractor voltage regulator. All well and good, but now that I have it running the generator puts out a steady 10A at normal high speed and drops down some at lower rev's. It puts out 7.5 V as is rated. I measured and confirmed that 9.9-10A with a multimeter set in series. Thinking it through the 39 car generator was rated for much higher amperage at 1500 rpm than the 7A for the tractor, so I'm concerned that the solid state regulator will not control the field voltage and allow the generator to run all the time at the max+ output and damage my generator.
Wondering if anyone has had this issue or any suggestions for making the system right, or if I should be concerned about the 10A (generator rated for 7.5V and 7A operation)constantly on (I think it is a concern for longer runs).
