It is now apart! I've made a finger inspection as there is so much grease on it, a visual is impossible at this moment. None of the gear teeth appear to have any damage, the bearings likewise and the recirculating ball mechanism moves smoothly. The only thing I haven't given at least a perfunctory exam are the bearings on the sector shafts and those appear to be bushings.
Looks like I'll have to sacrifice some gasoline to clean the parts so I can do a visual inspection. It's the only solvent I have available here at the farm.
As I disassembled it I periodically checked and it did not loosen up until I removed the right sector assembly.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Jack
