Might be a case where electronic ignition would fix you up.
EI doesn't care if your bushings are worn or if your cam lobes are worn.
I wouldn't put EI in a 6V tractor though some guys have with good results. If you are already 12V and installed EI you would likely not have to touch your distributer for years and years.
Cost is about the midpoint of the two prices you mention.
