First off you need the ORIGINAL FORD SERVICE MANUAL or an I&T SERVICE MANUAL and a FORD PARTS MANUAL breakdown of the Cable Steering System so you will understand how it works , how to repair and see all of the parts that are suppose to be there and WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE . I have seen a lot of Mickey Mouse repair jobs over the years with parts missing and or modified trying to make it work . Depending on what has been done to your tractor over the years there is TWO different cable designs , one with the reduction wheel which gives a 2:1 reduction to reduce sensitivity in steering and one without . There is also THREE different cylinder designs , most parts do interchange BUT the CONTROL VALVE PARTS do not . The other CRITICAL PART is the THREE PIECE TELESCOPING CABLE TUBE that mounts on the cylinder it MUST slide PERFECTLY WITHOUT BINDING . The power steering pump for Cable Steer is all by itself also because it runs a 1300 pounds of pressure . If all fails it can be switched over to the newer Drag Link Steering that was used on the later Heavy Duty Industrial's built from Aug. 1962 - Dec 1965 . Thanks Tony
