You do have the big nut, slotted for a hand crank, and washer off? You are seeing the end of the crankshaft with a threaded hole in the end? I don't know of any other reason the hub doesn't come off. And I have had a half dozen or so off in the last year. Those splines must be a tight fit. A tap with a hammer usually slides them right off.
