Dexron III is PRICEY! I can pick up a 5 gallon bucket of Coastal AW-32 at Autozone for $39.99. Figure three times that much for DEXRON III. I need 3 & 1/2 gallons.
Here is exactly what it says on the MTD website re hydraulic fluid recommendations:
Dexron III
OR 10W AW
OR AW-32
Apparently, 10W AW is not a commonly used terminology, because searches usually come back to the MTD website.
DEXRON III, BTW, is an "abandoned spec" in that GM only recommends use of fluids meeting DEXRON IV. As I recall, I found this on BobIsTheOilGuy, but the gist is that GM no longer supports the DEXRON III spec, nor will they market any products in their own name that they claim will meet DEXRON III. Looks like DEXRON IV is the new game in town.
