I used a dip stick heater in a flat head Ford years ago. Worked good but it's a pain to have to take it out each morning and put it in at night.
Not sure if there would be a problem with the depth of a N crankcase or not.
I have a new dip stick heater hanging in my basement. You should be able to buy one at a auto parts store.
