Found a actual Ford Motor Company generated film posted on U-Tube of the Ford Dearborn Tractor Divsion painting 8Ns on the assembly line, which verifies that the tractor was painted in partially assembled condition.
Lead based paint was used during this era.
All new vechicles painted in the USA are all water based.
Saw a video recently of the John Deer combine assembly plant with a green colored painted engine before assembly into the combine.
On my 8N the engine side of the generator was not painted and a paint run can be seen against a bare steel case.
Tractor supply sells a paint labled "Ford Red".
What color is TSC trying to match?
Surely it is not the Ford red paint code 8E used in nineties for Ford, Lincoln Mercury vechicles.
There is school indicating that Ford tractors built between 1940 to 1957 were blood red similiar to IH red while Ford tractor built between 1958 to 1962 were orange red.
The purpose of the research project was not to determine the paint code of the 8N paint but to determine what engine paints come close in color to what most 8N owners like to use for color.
