Steam Engine Generator Units

The Highland Park Model T Plant used several of these enormous Corliss steam engine/generator units to provide power for the facility.

One is preserved and on display at the Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.

This is the technology that replaced water wheels, and later steam engines, powering overhead line shafts to drive individual machines via leather belts.

Fascinating.
