  • 2n 12 Volt question
  • I have a 12 volt converted 2n. I just reran all new wires, my dad bought a new coil about a year ago, and gave it a tune up. I just got it up an running this afternoon and after about 15-20 mins of high idle the engine cut out. I let it sit for a minute and then fired it up and it ran on low idle pretty steady and then cut out again. I'm not quite certain if this is a fuel issue or an issue with the coil. I read the wiring diagrams for 12 volt conversions and watch a solid video on 12 volt conversion and it seems I've done all as it should be. My one question is on an additional resistor - the rectangular one, not the square block one. The video I watched and the diagram I saw did not include an additional resistor. Though I've read that I may need one, does anyone think that is the case and if so can someone show me where that may go, where it may mount and how to wire it. ORRRRR could it possibly be just a fuel issue, carb adjustment? The machine doesn't seem to sputter though, it kinda just cuts out so I'm thinking it may be more on an electrical issue....any help would be great! Thank you!

  • To check for adequate fuel, get a pint jar, remove the drain nut from the bottom of the fuel bowl on the carb and it should fill the jar in about a minute with a good stream of gas. If it does, then the next step would be to check ignition.

  • Whether you need the rectangular resistor depends on the coil that was installed. IF you installed a 12v coil, you do not need the extra, rectangular resistor. If you kept a 6v coil, then you do need it. Which coil was used?

  • A new 12 volt coil is being used, purchased about a year ago. I figured I didn't need the resistor but I saw some people say you did I just wasn't sure. So now I need to figure out what's cutting the tractor out.
