I am looking for a rebuilt steering box for my 1951 (?) serial (8N360548). My steering has a lot of play in it. Any ideas where I might pick one up without selling my house?

Ron, have you considered rebuilding your current steering box? You can get the parts for it from Just 8Ns and probably a few other places.

I have thought about it, and that is what I may just have to do. I normally get my parts from Stiener Tractor.

The serial number says your tractor is a 1950 not 1951. BUT, many tractors have experienced engines being replaced. Also, the 8N experienced a steering box design change. I don't remember the year.
What is history of work that you have done to tighten up the steering? Are the wheel bearings properly adjusted? Have you replaced the spindle bushings. Have you replaced the tie rod ends? Is wheel alignment correct? Have you tried adjusting the steering box? Others will jump in to help you.

I haven't done anything to it. I saw they changed steering boxes I think I saw just before 1950, and I don't know the patient history on this tractor other than what I was given when I bought it a few months ago. The man that sold it to me worked on them as a hobby, he did give me a manual with dates and prices of things he has done to the tractor. I looked and didn't really see anything for the steering box. Everything seems nice and pretty tight (minus the play in the steering wheel before anything really moves). I am probably going to take the hood off and see if I can figure out how to take the box off and then tear it down to see what parts look worn / need replacement.
