  • Ford N archive drawings
  • All you guys that have acquired archive drawings of the N, where did you get them? I would love see them!!

Don't know how many drawings you guys have between you, but would it be possible to make copies available for other interested members? Maybe sell them thru NTC to raise support $$?

  • The drawings that Don and others bought are their property now, I guess (I'm an engineer, not a lawyer, and am not speaking for Ford, Ford New Holland, or CNH). There are supposedly two identical same sets in the Archives, and perhaps these would be shown to a researcher if they knew what to ask for. Since they are paper, it is possible these could be reproduced by the Archives staff on larger paper if they had a policy to know how to price it. I have heard they are not allowed to do much that they don't have a policy for doing already in place, but they are very pleasant and helpful to you in helping you find what you are looking for when you go in there. But it gets down to cost if you are talking about quantity. And these drawings are a snap shot of what the drawings were when they had to be compiled for the Ferguson lawsuit. This is both good and not-so-good. As changes were made some of the earlier drawings were discarded. And some of the drawings at that time may have had problems that were later fixed, and there may have been limited or no production exactly the way the drawing appears in the book.

  • The drawings I have access to in the engineering department in New Holland are not for sale. They are actually not even drawings, but microfilmed aperture cards that can be viewed in a viewer or printed off a card scanner. When you have a good enough scanner-printer, the prints can be anywhere from 8.5x11 to 34x?? or up to whatever the maximum paper roll size is that the printer will take. Some large drawings are filmed in multiple frames (the hood drawings, for example). At the Archives in Dearborn (now called the Benson Ford Research Center), the drawings are on 70 mm film, I believe, and drawings you can order from them are 8.5x11 only. If you go in there and ask them to bring out the film with certain part numbers, you can view all the films in the sleeve for that number and make 8.5x11 prints of each area you want a record of. Obviously, this is a pain when you are looking at large drawings and want it all, you end up with a pile of 8.5x11's that you have to try and piece together. And they are not cheap. ($5.00 each, if I remember correctly.)

  • Hey Don:

Not interested in any particular one, how many drawings are we talking about?

  • Don can give the exact answer, but I'm guessing about 12 books, each several inches thick, and with blueprint sized pages, certainly not 8.5 x 11. You'll need specialized scanning equipment and lot's of time.

  • Ed, the drawings are about 20x14 and there are about 2500 of them. don b

  • WOW! I see what you mean!

I expected that size, but I didn't realize you had a full set. Pretty daunting task. I thought maybe there were 20-30 sheets of drawings available.

I can see where scanning would be the only feasible way to do anything. Have to think about this a little more.

  • Part of the mission with this History Forum is to try and compile all of this data, knowledge
etc. and get it in a format to preserve it. We are being pretty ambitious, but we would like to
get all of these documents saved in PDF or a similar format and posted to a server for
    members to access.

Ed Gooding is running part of this show - we can always use more helping hands in both
executing and also helping organize projects.

    Regards, Patrick

  • My scanner died last year and my internet connection is slower than moleasses in January, but, I have good software for searching stuff on the internet. I'll do what ever I can to help with the hunt for history and making .pdf's.
