  • Jonas....here's the best pic I could scrounge up of my early 8N's air cleaner. It has the round cup & screw clamp.

There's no "HH" or "U" on the assembly.

  • Hi Jonas-

Interesting info on the air cleaner history. Here's a picture from the green 8N Dealer Service Training Manual which show sthe early 8N with a round cup. I can't find a part number for this though. Does the round cup fit into the HH cleaner housing? My early 8N came with the square cup on the air cleaner.

from the green 8N Dealer Service Training Manual, Round Cup Air Cleaner...

  • Tim...What is the date on that book?Notice the round bottom cup and toggle clips. This seems to be what John Smith was saying.MAYBE,this set up could be called 8n9600A-1? I think the 8n9600B cleaner or at least the "B" cup used a clamp.I'll start digging again. don b

I cannot find a date on the Service Training Manual but I'll keep looking for other tell-tale signs...

  • The first owners manual (July '47) shows the filter with toggle clamps and a flat bottom cup. What was the serial number on Dennis Carpenter's unrestored original 8n? It has a round bottom cup. My 8N949 had a flat bottom cup.

  • John....don't remember DC tractor serial number.I beginning to think maybe both types were used at the same time frame.I have a pic of the new 47 that Mr. Brock gave Dusty, and it has the flat bottom cup with the toggle clips.I'll get Derek to post on board. don b

  • Hi Tim

From what I understand the early 8n oil cups are not interchangeable with the later HH assemblies but I cant say for sure because ive never seen one and unfortunatly dont have any 8n parts manuals. Hopefully Don Barkley will put in some info on this. Apparantly there were at least 5 different types of air cleaners on the 8ns. My 1950 8n #201373 has a square bottomed cup with snaps. Ive never taken the time to look at the details on it like I have for the 9n/2ns. Hopefully we can get a discussion started on them.
