I'm pretty sure you can still buy a pitman ready made. I haven't needed parts for a while, but was able to get most wear items, knives, guards, pitman, sickle, sickle head. I bought from Sickle Service. There is probably others.

I used to mow in the neighborhood of 60 acres a year with mine. I still have spare parts to replace broken parts. A couple complete pitmans, 3 sickles and I think a new sickle head.

A couple years ago, I bought a 7' rotary mower to pull behind my 45 HP John Deere. Same width but mows a bit faster than my 8N.

Secret keep the sickle sharp and good guards on it. You'll have less broken pitmans. I also cross drill the pitman between clamp bolts. Keeps the wood from splitting around the pitman bolts. Oh and store it under cover. Wood pitmans don't like weather.
