Mike:

Back in the day the Funk Aircraft Co. offered a conversion kit and it is estimated that about 5,000 were bought and installed. Many conversions were done by Ford dealers to give them a more powerful tractor to sell.

Most of what is out there have the Ford flathead six in them (226 CID or 254 CID depending on bore and stroke). The Ford OHV six came along at the end of 8N prodiction so there were very few installed in 8N's. The OHV version is considered a rare collectors item - worth $1500 in basket case condition.

The tractors had a reputation for being hard on the rear end. The trannies held up well as far as I have heard. If you find one in good running shape and all you want it for is to bushhog and pull a two bottom plow, go for it.

There have been a relative handful of conversion kits sold by others. Some are still available today. Get some pics of the tractor for us and more info and we will help you out.

The Funk kits all used a big molded aluminum piece to transition from the dash to the hood. It's very distinctive.

Bob
