You polarize as often as you want but it may not help. You can take the generator to a local generator repair place and have it checked. Chances are the voltage regulator is bad.Try tapping on voltage reg while it is running and see what you amp meter does. I gave up on one of mine and every time I park it I hook up a float charger. I don't run it all that long at a time so it works for me. unless you are using lights I would think it would last all day. Ignition does not take all that much.
If you don't have the FO-4 service, now would be a good time to get one. It has a good section on troubleshooting .
