The serial number is 9N12771 and either a 3 or 8. I can't make out the end emblem, but I'm pretty sure it's a star, which makes our tractor NOT a 2n, according to John Smith's site. Thank you so much for your help, and the link! Great web page.
We got our tractor running today. It was the clutch; it was too tight. Everything is humming along just fine now, though of course we will be giving the whole thing a good going over once we get the manual.
