Chuck, your analogy is correct. We did the same way when I was growing up on the farm.
Also with the tires loaded, it is much easier to do one side at a time because it is hard enough to rotate a loaded wheel around on one side much less switch sides. And when you would go to align over the lugs you would have to adjust jack level to get the exact height to slip the wheel on. The Ford tractor jack would have both wheels up and make it hard to align the loaded wheel. Besides for cultivating and planting you don't need the extra traction anyway.
