With the pressure side bleeder plug out of the pump a steady stream of oil should be making quite a mess in the barn. So it sounds like it is. A loose plug will make quite a spray.
I'm not sure what to think about the plug on the 3"X5" plate under the seat. A number of us have tried to figure this one out. What you are seeing seems to fit what some have seen on normal systems. Others report quite a bit of pressure there. I feel that pressure is only there in position control mode and when the touch control lever is raises. JMOR has done a lot of work on this, I wish he would chime in.
At this point I inclined to think your pump is making pressure and should raise the lift.
Are you planning to remove the top cover for a "look-see"? If you need help post back and we'll tackle it.
