There is no clip on the rotor, it is just a press fit to keyed type shaft. I can see the center body of distributor with shaft and rotor not running true but apparently not enough to hit the inside of the cap as that is stationary . I was thinking if someone bent or damaged the timing gear during re assembly that it may be causing the problem. My big concern is damaging the new distributor. It is the bolt on type aluminum, not the press fit. I believe this is a 1942 model. So for the previous owner has put new carburetor, tried electronic ignition, new head gasket and 12v conversion and after a couple weeks gave up trying and sold the tractor to me for $650.00. I was hoping it would be a good investment. I hope to hear it run soon. I also have two 8n models that run great and use on a regular basis. Side mount distributor being the best choice. Thank you for the fast replies. Jim
