It should be spring loaded so to speak. There is a little ball that fits in the hole and the spring makes the fitting clamp down on it. It you grab it and push you should be able to release the tension and take the linkage off the ball. I replaced mine last summer since it was worn out. Look up the governor linkage on Just 8N or one of the sites that sells the parts for 8N. Once you get a look at the part you should be able to figure out how it comes off. Good Luck.
