I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the rope seals in these engines upset the whole 'resistance to turning' picture. If it were a modern engine with modern vs rope seals, I could use gloves and grab the flywheel & turn it, but the rope can really alter that. Had I been doing it, I would have installed the crank, no seals and spun it in the mains for a feel. IF OK, then took apart, installed the seals & repeated. Then installed the rods, etc.
