Sheldon, if you intend to use the factory 11-hole, 3-point cross drawbar, you'll need to also use drawbar stays (aka stabilizer links) to prevent the drawbar from lifting. Here's some info on that:

Here's a close-up of what the stays look like and a pic of them installed:

There is also another setup with a V-bar that keeps your drawbar from rotating. Looks like this when installed:

Here it is when installed (note that the drawbar stays need to be used with this, also):

As already mentioned, you can also use what is referred to as a swinging drawbar. If you use one like shown in the eBay ad, you can pretty much leave it on your tractor all the time. The original Dearborn swinging drawbar allowed you to leave the bracket on, but you removed the swinging drawbar when not in use. The original Dearborn swinging drawbar also required the use of the 11-hole cross drawbar. Here's a pic of the Dearborn type:

Note that the drawbar stays are used with this one, too.

Here's the swinging drawbar shown in the eBay ad, installed on a tractor:

Here's how it mounts under your 8N:

You can see how the open design of the attaching bracket allows you to push the drawbar forward on the tractor when not using it, so you can keep it installed but out of the way of 3-point implements being used. If you are not into complete originality, this is probably the most convenient one to use.

Also, since we are covering the bases on this, here's a very rare swinging drawbar model that is hard to find but interesting:

Hope this helps............Ed
