Understand the A & B , VR labeling, now
Thank you for the explanation.
So ,if the generator is polarized INCORRECTLY and connected correctly to the battery,
and spun clockwise front facing , same as engine clockwise rotation
where is the excess current generated, armature, field windings or both?
or Maybe the generator will not generate any voltage or current at all and when it is exposed to the elephant(battery), the elephant stomps on it and burns up the generator when the VR closes to charge. The generator is protected from the elephant when the VR is open.
Also, is there a procedure to check if the generator is polarized correctly?
Seems like there is on;y a 25% chance on a two terminal generator to get it correct.
The FO-4 manual states connect to the battery terminal but does not indicate whether to use + or -. The procedure is based on a + grd.
Believe the the manual polarization procedure on page 54 is based on the so called A type generator, battery & VR all connected and not bench polarized.
