I had the same problem. Split the tractor, replaced pressure plate, disk, and throwout
bearing. Put it back together, still grinding when tried to put in gear. Split again,
took pressure plate back. Was assured p-plate adjusted properly. Was told trbl must be in linkage. Had wife depress clutch while I watched the linkage. Sure enough, when she depressed the clutch, a crack appeared in the arm that rotates the shaft that pushes
the throwout bearing against the fingers of the p-plate.
If you operate the clutch yourself, you will be unable to examine the linkage properly.
