If you have the 2014 N-Tractor Calendar, you can see "Miss Work in Progress" on the back page. Here is what she looks like, today:
I've been working on this early 8N ('47) for four years. As it happens, I have it sold and need to finish the job. The tractor was in pieces when I got it, so I wasn't able to assess much in the way of what it needed.
At this point, it runs (quite nicely, in fact), but is leaking coolant around the freeze plugs - so I guess I didn't seat them proplerly. Can I solve that with something like Bars Leak?
The other problem is more serious. When I depress the clutch pedal, it goes almost down to the foot rest, but does not disengage. I'm pretty sure I replaced the clutch disc. But, there is no "springyness" when I push down. If I try to put it into gear, it grinds really badly. Any idea as to what I've done incorrecly? Could I have installed the clutch disc backwards? Could it be a worn out pressure plate?
I plan on splitting the tractor to see what is going on, but could use some ideas as to what to look for. Or, is there something I can do, short of splitting it?
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
Don
