The so called engine spray paint marketed by the major spray paint manufacturers is most probably a marketing gimic to sell more product.
after all the engine paint colors match painted engine colors of the time.
Try to purchase a new vechicle today that has the engine painted, most if not all are manufactured from aluminum pressure die castings with no paint applied.
But why paint the radiator with a high temperature paint, after all the radiator should be a lower temperature than the engine , heat must transfer throught the coolant from hotter engine body to colder radiator body?
Also the spray paints what were used yesterday are being taken off the shelf
and replaced today with lower VOC paint with modified formulations to meet new EPA and state regulations. There is movement that EPA is hurting US business, but that is another subject. Businesses are being fined for selling outdated paint.
A thought on the color thing. Sunrise red has yellow tint based on spectrum analysis.
IH or regal red(dark red color) has no yellow tint, but has only violet and red tint, again, based on spectrum analysis.
Now, if all the samples taken from original 8N painted tractor all have yellow tint and red tint, and no violet. IH red is thought by many to be more of the original color, what is the source of the yellow tint in the original faded red color.
We all know that red color fades with time when subjected to UV sunlight.
If IH red was the origjnal color, where did the yellow come from, the sun is thought to be yellow, maybe the yellow tint came from the sun?
Someting to think about. anyway.
I agree with most folks that the orignal color was closest to sun rise red, since sunrise red is 24% yellow tint along with 14% red & 62% violet. The yellow mixed with red produces orange on the color wheel. Over time the red will fade and become more orange.
Have a steel trailer made from a F100 that was painted with rustoleum orange and faded to light pink in 14 years in the Nevada direct sunlight. Then painted the same trailer 8 years ago with rustoleum sunrise yellow and the paint color has dulled, but still the same color of yellow.
