Wanted to incorporate the member comments into a revised report.
Added five red colored spray paints to the list, including two New Holland dealer paints and three more Valspar tractor paints.
The revised list shows the red colors from the most orange tinted red to the most violet tinted red.
Found that the Valspar tractor brand paint is the best paint for the money at $7/can.
Second best is New Holland Dealer paint by Valspar.
Valspar tractor paint is rated up to 350F ,which should be good for most areas of the engine, except maybe the area near the exhaust manifold.
Valspar technical did not recommend using this paint for engine application.
The New Holland paint is expensive at $10-11/can. The paint is manufactured by Valspar in Moline, Illinois and is licensed by New Holland.
This paint has an old fashioned straight cyclinder spray button that does produce a very fine mist.
In my opinion the New Holland 70780DS red is the best match to the original 8N color,
matched to the back side of my 8N governor.
There is no yellow tint, based on spectrum analysis for 70780DS.
However, the Valspar NW red is also identical in color based on spectrum analaysis
to New Holland Dealer 70780DS red. This paint is less expensive and can be purchased through Lowes with 6 can minimum. Found Valspar tractor brand paint in all colors at "Do It Center" hardware store chain in individual cans. The paint can has a modern spray head that produces a very fine mist spray and has a fast dry to touch time and smooth gloss finish. According to Valspar the curring agents re the most costly part of the part formula.
Included in the list is the New Holland dealer, MIJ-956-SE5DSLF red, that is sold to match the 39 to 62 models. In my opinion this color matches the later post 52 models
and safisfies the folks who have 9ns that desire the 8N color scheme.
There is no engine paint that matches the dark red color with no yellow tint.
However the folks that desire the restoleum "sunrise red" color with a tint of yellow,(orange) the Krylon/VHT ,ford red, engine paint is a close match in color.
From the list below the paints that have yellow tint will have an orange cast.
The higher the violet percent, the darker the red. The list is created with increasing violet percentage. The first product on the list is the most orange red.
The last listed product is the darkest red.

Dupont industrial paint will hold up to 350F, but is only available in quarts or gallons at $45/quart with a custom color. A catalyst hardner is required at $45/quart. The paint can be applied by brush with breaking any Federal EPA laws.
However, if the paint is sprayed a spray booth incorporating a 98% filtration system must be used. Many inexpensive portable spray booths are now available based on the new law. Special high efficiency spray guns must be used which reduces over spray and special spray gun cleaning apparatus must be used and special general clean up procedures must be met.
The EPA law went into affect jan 1 , 2011 and not every one is aware of this new law.
The law applies to all hydrocarbon based spray painting using commerical type apparatus including hobby painting. Using spray can paint is still legal, but many states have restricted the type of paint that can be sprayed from a can.
Spray painting water based laytex paint is legal.
Behr paint company now has available a modified alkyd based paint that has similar properties to hydrocarbon oil based alkyd paint that can be sprayed.
