After all the years reading the "How Do" posts. I finally need some advice.
I have a 1952 8N side mount with original 6 volt Generator running with a 8 volt battery. This setup with the 8 volt battery was done back in mid 1990's. It has been a blessing starting in the winter months. There is not one problem(s) with this setup. It has a 6 volt coil, solenoid, and wiring. I've replaced the old factory wiring last year.

My problem is. The Generator has gone bad. Will not charge the battery. I've done the Generator test and there is no spinning of the armature in this testing.
Out in California there is a company selling a one wire 8 volt Alternator for $175.00. With this 8 volt alternator I can keep my 6 volt coil and solenoid, but I have to change the wiring. And the person at this company tells I have to wire it up like a 12 volt one wire setup.
Anyone have a wiring diagram for a 12 volt one wire conversion for a 8N side mount tractor?

I don't see why you don't connect the wire from the alternator to your terminal block, regardless of polarity or voltage.

Thanks a million for the advice. I agree with you on how to wire up the 8 volt alternator without any advice. My thinking was to install the 8 volt alternator, use the same 6 volt wiring I installed last year, remove the 6 volt voltage regulator, remove the three wires (field, armature, and ground) from the generator and wiring harness. Make a 12 guage wire going from the one wire post of the new alternator to the bottom post on the terminal block. This would replace the yellow wire from the (B) post on the regulator to the terminal block.

? - did you install a resistor in the wire from the terminal block to the coil when you installed the 8-volt battery? I am curious as to whether that is needed to protect the 6v coil. Also, did you tweak your regulator to charge an 8-volt battery after it was installed? If not, I question whether you were getting your battery back to 8v because the regulator would stop the charging before you got to 8 volts.

I must add something that I failed to mention in my original post.
The company in California that is selling the 8 volt alternator...is a "postive ground" just like the 6 volt setup from the factory.
So the 12 volt wiring diagram will not work, as it is a negative ground.
