Fan Belt Length For a Small Genny

I did an archive search and came up with conflicting info. Did anyone ever resolve the right belt length (I assume 5/8 belt) for a small genny with 3 & 1/2 in pulley? How about for the very few of them out there with a 3 in pulley?

I plan to use the John Smith Method that he described in a post way back in 2005 or 2006. Cut an old belt into two short sections and duct tape them around the pulleys. Wrap a cloth measuring tape like tailors use around the whole thing and measure.
