Governor Fork Pin in Shaft

Could use some advice. I've got the governor off of the 8N and I need to replace the dust seal as oil is leaking out the shaft. I see the pin that holds the fork on the shaft and it obviously needs to come out to allow the shaft to slide out. I took the oil source plug out of the back of the governor. I can see the other side of the fork/pin through that hole. I understand that the pin is tapered. It seems smaller on the oil source plug side and bigger on the gear side. So, I think I need to pound the pin out by going through the oil hole. I've tried pounding it out that direction and it is not budging. Am I going the right way? I'm afraid I'm going to break something if I pound much harder.

Advice welcome and appreciated.
