Not a problem using a 180 thermostat, it will work well especially in cold climates. My N's all have 160's in them and have had since new so here in FL I continue to use them. In some original Ford Tractor parts books you will find both the 160 as well as the 180's listed. That is because the 180 is what the distillate burning NAN's needed, the 180 is small print listed for the NAN. Also back in the day if you used the 180 your antifreeze could quickly boil out, water level receded and major overheating could quickly cause big problems. Permanent anti-freeze was rare as hens teeth and costly during and after the war. N's ran well with the 160 and you kept your alcohol, however many folks did not know how much alcohol was in their tractor because if level was low they added alcohol, now it boiled even easier. Original N thermostats had about a 1/4" X 2" thin brass strap with a hooked end. The stat was inserted in the lower end of the hose, the hooked end went around the lower end of the hose to prevent any possible migration.
