Sometimes it works out that way. I had the reverse situation once - a guy had what he claimed was a '39 and based on what description he was giving me over the phone, it WAS a '39. It was in way upstate NY and I told him that my son would drive over from Ft. Drum ( a 1 hour drive, max) to look it over for me and get the serial number, which the seller claimed he couldn't find despite my detailed directions to him. At this point he got irate and told me that he had been horsing around over the phone with me for an hour and having my son recheck everything was the last straw - it was $1500 right now, take it or leave it.
I left it.
I have 4 '39's around now and that's plenty. I wish I had a lower serial tractor than 9N 2158 but I don't, and so be it. At least I have 9N 4394 with small "A" genny and voltage regulator.
