Back in the 50's we used to solder replacement bulbs in whenever one went out, pennies compared to dollars, easy task but there was no need to re-silver the reflector. In about 1950 or 1951 Ford Tractor started selling the work light assembly with sealed beams. They also started selling a kit to convert the bulb style to sealed beams. The kit complete with sealed beam cost about the same as a replacement bulb assembly so it was a no brainer for folks that didn't want to solder bulbs in. The sealed beams are much better light and last ten times longer. I presently have only one sealed beam work light and it came on my 1952 8N but all would have them if the conversion kit was an available re-pop. I prefer the sealed beams.
