If you go on ebay and search for "mini alternator", you can see that they are still making or remanning the denso small alternators. They are advertised at 35 Amp at 12V, and it is a tiny little thing. You can get new ones for $80.
4" diameter housing, 4.5" long, 5.5 lbs, and has a v-belt pulley. Seems like with a small custom bracket it would work just fine.
So what would be more interesting, a small alternator, or a 6V genny rebuilt to be 12V.
