I have replaced all ign parts, new carb kit, air cleaner off (was clear). Nothing has made any difference so far. Engine starts first rev and runs perfectly with choke at about 7/8 percent closed/choked. Any RPM, gov works fine, pulls good, but if choke is opened up engine sputters and dies. It runs rich of course with that much choke...I can see the soot in tailpipe but no visible smoke. This engine is in near perfect shape and you wouldn't think anything was wrong to hear it run except the need for choke to be nearly full closed. If I go to full close it dies of course which is normal. Could it be the 6 month old gas? Or do I have something wrong in the carb? The problem came up after engine set for 6 months, then I cranked it up, float valve stuck and flooded carb. Put in a new kit cause I had one, one of a dozen Marvels I have done without problem. This one has me stumped. The fact that it runs so perfectly (with some choke) makes me think the ignition system is fine. Any ideas welcome. It's not like I have to get the plowing done, got time, but it just is a mystery.
