Success! must have been something in the carb...I went through it with a mag glass, took it completely apart and super cleaned everything, poked out all the holes like suggested.....never saw a problem but obviously there was one somewhere, I'm thinking near the base of the main jet. I know the ventura goes only one way, fits right way and does not the other so it was not that. I put carb back on, and it needed NO choke to start and run, accelerates properly, idles okay.. The small screw for idle appears to have little effect unless turned too far open, but main jet wants to be in a certain place with no exception. I have so rarely had to adjust either over the years on any Ford. I'm pretty sure I need some fresh gas too cause idle is not as somooth as I have had it.
Anyway, thanks for all input....I seriously considered every item by everybody. I had that carb off 3 times, and missed something the first 2, getting old or blind or both.
