If you have the correct original dust cover, it fits down inside the distributor body, and the distributor cap fits exactly as it does without the dust cover in place. The correct dust cover causes no problems.
If you buy any replacement dust cover, regardless of what it may say it fits, the replacement dust cover will be for the NAA distributor. The replacement type jacks the 8N side mount distributor cap up and it no longer engages the slot in the distributor that prevents rotation. With the aftermarket dust cover, the only thing preventing distributor cap rotation is the spring clamps. You are better off without a dust cover than using a replacement that does not fit right.
