The stock 49N 6 volt generator is a type 8N10000B ,internally grounded field, externally sourced field.
To properly polarize the generator momentarily connect the negavtive side of a 6 volt battery source to the A (armature) terminal rather than the F terminal as indicated by the Fo-4 manual. This procedure is consistent with the four generator configuration diagrams posted by JMOR last year
The F terminal is used for the internally grounded field and externally sourced field
type generator. The FO-4 manual indicates to use the F terminal, but this terminal is used for Jubilee NAA & later Ford tractors not the earlier configurations.
The FO-4 manual is worthless on polarizing because it attemps to cover all the different generator configuations with one procedure.
It is very important to identify the type of generator configuration and polarize it correctly every time the battery is disconnected.
