Yes - you have a slap worn out pump and a heavier oil keeps it working in hot weather. If that works for you and that is what you want to do fine. But it is NOT what Ford and/or Vickers designed or recommended - it is a farmerized work around for 60 years of wear.

You need to read AND understand the Owner's manual and I have included the pertinent page from the 1954 600 Hundred Series Owner's Manual below.

M4864-A is Ford's number for their Mild EP SAE 80 gear oil and it is specifed both by Ford number and SAE grade for year round use in ALL sumps of the 600 series tractor.

M-4864-D is Ford's number for their loader hydraulic oil and it is NOT SAE 90 gear oil. It is a much lighter hydraulic oil that Ford said to use to THIN the M4864-A (SAE 80) gear oil in the tractor hydraulic sump when the temperature got below 10F. Ford didn't want to make it thicker - they wanted it thinner.

M4864-B is Ford's designation for their Mild EP SAE 90 gear oil and it is not mentioned anywhere on that page by either the Ford number or SAE grade designation.

Repeat after me - at no time did the Owner's manual EVER specify using SAE 90 gear oil ANYWHERE in the hundred series hydraulic, transmission, or final drive systems.
