Why be so difficult. "Believe" anything you like, since for 'believing', no proof is necessary, but the fact is that you MUST polarize ANY of these old tractor generators in order to establish that they output a voltage polarity such as to match the system (battery grounding scheme). If you fail to do this the generator has a 50/50 chance of trying to charge your battery backwards (that means applying a positive to your negative battery terminal of your N tractor! The first fatality of the reversed polarity is your cut out contacts, as they become welded into a single glob of metal.
See the picture where the +/- collision & welding occurs (black for neg gnd 12v system and green for pos gnd 6 volt system).
